A superb lapis lazuli slice from Afganistan magnificent colour with traces of the normal pyrite banding that are associated with high-quality lapis lazuli and used by the Egyptians for thousands of years to make paint eyeliner and to adorn masks and Tutankhamun's sarcophagus. He ruled Egypt as pharaoh for ten years until his death at age 19, around 1324 B.C. Mines in northeast Afghanistan are still the major source of lapis lazuli. Other Important mines are also west of lake Baikal in Russia, and in the Andes mountains in Chile a deep-blue metamorphic rock but wow.
